Jean-Michel Geneste was the curator of the Lascaux cave and coordinated research in the Chauvet cave. He also travels the world – from the Dordogne to British Columbia, via Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Altai – on the trail of hunter-gatherers of yesterday and today, their techniques and rock art in all its splendor and diversity. Here he tells his research to Boris Valentin, professor of prehistoric archaeology, and the two discuss their passion for the very ancient history of humanity, for great distant places that have become very close to them. Such familiarity requires pushing the study sometimes to the limits of the perceptible. This is one of the wonders that this book wants to share.
