Draft Horses: Nine French Jewels - Frederic Halm
We wanted to make farmers wear berets in the tragic story of the disappearance of draft horses in our countryside. But the arrival of the automobile and especially the railways at the end of the 19th century was much more fatal to their breeding than that of the tractor in the fields. They even almost disappeared for good. Despite all the adventures endured, the draft horse has nevertheless managed to cross the centuries and our country is currently the only one in the world to be able to align nine breeds with their own phenotypes. However, it is still not safe from danger. The attraction of the draft horse is very real and marked by a certain form of nostalgia. It is a bit like the last witness of a time gone by that is said to be better. In addition, the draft is endearing. But for the younger generations of riders, those who drag their chaps to equestrian centers, the draft still seems like antiques. It is a bit like the Jurassic equestrian park. While some have never even approached one, others ask themselves a question: but what use are these big horses at a time when it is fashionable to miniaturize animals? In the answer(s) that we will be able to provide them will undoubtedly be the solution that will ensure that these magnificent and endearing animals can trot at least to the end of the new thousand-year-old field that has just opened up before them.
