Synopsis

October 1990. A young woman, Tina Salvatore, is pursued by a mysterious driver on a deserted road. She manages to escape and finds help from a truck driver.

Some time later, at Bakersfield in California, Joe “Deke” Deacon, sheriff deputy of the Kern County, is called to Los Angeles to search for evidence for a case that is about to go to trial. Deke was once a police officer in the "City of Angels." There he meets Jim Baxter, a young detective from the Los Angeles police, which is unsuccessfully investigating a serial killer having already claimed four victims. At the end of his career, Deke is an officer with particular methods, very different from Baxter. But the young police officer nevertheless suggests that Deke come to a crime scene. Deke then takes leave and decides to stay in Los Angeles to investigate. Baxter and he will team up to track down the killer. As the investigation progresses, Deke sees a dark secret from his past resurface. He quickly identifies a suspect, Albert Sparma, who may be the murderer.
