Through its publications, Éditions de la Province de Liège highlights the men and women of our region as well as the sites that have shaped our region.

A region's identity is multifaceted. The economy, sports, heritage, culture... there are so many ways to discover it, grasp it, understand it, appreciate it, and be proud of it.

The steel industry was the soul of our region and its blast furnaces are still landmarks in the landscape. "Liège Steel Industry: Chronicles of an Orchestrated Death... and of a Relentless Resistance " was written by José Verdin. In this beautiful book of nearly 300 pages, the author, who actively participated in the discussions between the various speakers, has endeavored to retrace the torments and uncertainties that have punctuated the history of the Liège steel industry over the past thirty years. The book also brings together previously unpublished documents, impressive photographs, and poignant testimonies. Indeed, beyond the story of a tool, it is also the story of thousands of people.

The steelworkers were proud to create this cast iron. And yet, in recent decades, the "Metallus" would have to fight to preserve this tool... with the outcome we all know. This book is also intended as a testament to this struggle.

Opposite the Seraing blast furnaces lies another cauldron, namely that of the Sclessin stadium and its football club. Thanks to the help of new sources, this publication brings the most unknown period of the Liège institution out of oblivion.

The appeal of a territory also lies in its culture and history, whose roots emerge here and there in the form of sculptures, initiatives, street names, and even architectural eccentricities. So many traces too often overlooked by everyday walkers, yet they deserve to be explored. This is what " Liège à pied " offers you over its 212 pages (€16). Its authors (Charly Bailly, Julian Huls, Julien Chapaux) have imagined 7 bucolic and urban routes to discover the Ardent City in a different way. Finally, in the coming weeks, a memoir book on the Italians involved with the Céramique Nationale de Welkenraedt, written by Nathalie Mignano, will be published.

" " Reading for All ," by Jean-Jacques Messiaen, traces the history of the Province of Liège's public reading initiatives. The work is presented as a chronological narrative spanning more than two hundred years of history. It describes in turn the first elements in the 18th century, the educational and social vision of the 19th century that would much later give rise to the concepts of "popular education," then "lifelong education," the profound societal upheavals brought about by the two world wars, the emergence of the notion of "sociocultural activities" in the 1960s, and finally, current issues, with the advent of digital technology and social networks. This study shows the extent to which, today, libraries and public reading represent not only tools of knowledge, but also of social cohesion.
