Forced into exile under Chinese pressure, masters, monks and lamas encouraged the spread of a doctrine and teachings that were previously difficult to access for non-Tibetans. The Western appetite for spirituality did the rest... Like so many seeds scattered to the four winds, their teachings took root in the West. Buddhist Renaissances is the unpublished story of an encounter between Tibetan Buddhism and France, more precisely Auvergne. A fruitful encounter, which led to the creation of a unique place, Dhagpo Kundreul ling, combining a monastery, temple and meditation retreats. From the initial shock of two very different cultures to their gradual rapprochement, the book describes the stages of a fruitful encounter between the East and the West initiated in the Auvergne region nearly forty years ago. The story of this rooting is based on a series of testimonies from participants in this story, whether they experienced it from the inside or were witnesses from the outside. Neighbors, elected officials or suppliers evoke the memory of sometimes surprising encounters, of misunderstandings gradually lifted, as well as the birth of increasingly close ties with the new arrivals. Former retreatants, now lay people for some, monks or nuns for others, depending on their path in life, also tell of their arrival in Auvergne, the reasons why they chose to come here and what they experienced there - and, for many of them, still live there. These crossed visions illustrate the slow maturation of a relationship, as rich as it was unexpected, which will have favored the mutual discovery of two cultures at opposite ends of the spectrum.
